Josh Hawley calls for special counsel to investigate handling of Kavanaugh allegations

Reported by Washington Times:

Missouri GOP Senate candidate Josh Hawley called Monday for a special counsel to look into Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s handling of the allegations of sexual assault that Christine Blasey Ford made against Brett Kavanaugh.

Mr. Hawley, the state’s attorney general, is running to unseat Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, who has come out against Mr. Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court. Mr. Hawley says Democrats have turned the confirmation process into a “partisan circus” that has raised ethical and legal questions.

“That’s why today I am calling for a special counsel to investigate the conduct of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, her staff and all of the relevant parties for violating the confidentiality of Dr. Ford and of obstructing the work of the Senate Judiciary Committee, potentially also obstructing an FBI background investigation,” Mr. Hawley told reporters in a conference call.

Mr. Hawley said Mrs. McCaskill should join him, pointing out that the veteran Democrat has expressed concerns over how Mrs. Ford’s allegations were leaked to the press.
