Dave Weigel Called Out By Trump For Misleading Tweet

Dave Weigel - National Hill

Trump just called out Dave Weigel, a political reporter for the Washington Post for his inaccurate Tweet regarding the crowd size at Trump’s most recent rally.

“Dave Weigel put out a phony photo of an empty arena hours before I arrived @ the venue, w/ thousands of people outside, on their way in. Real photos now shown as I spoke. Packed house, many people unable to get in. Demand apology & retraction from FAKE NEWS WaPo!” Trump Tweeted just a few hours ago.

Trump vs Dave Weigel

Dave immediately apologized after Trump Tweeted at him by saying, “Sure thing: I apologize. I deleted the photo after @dmartosko told me I’d gotten it wrong”. He continued his apology, “It was a bad tweet on my personal account, not a story for Washington Post. I deleted it after like 20 minutes. Very fair to call me out. Everything I say on Twitter is a joke[…]”

Dave Weigel Apology

Dave’s Twitter account is officially verified with a blue verification badge that lets people know it’s an account of public interest that is authentic. He has nearly 370,000 followers.

Shortly after Dave apologized he posted an Amazon link to his book urging users to “buy many copies of my book” which raise into question his sincerity. Dave is using the publicity from his misleading Tweet to sell copies of his own book. Will the Washington Post continue to employ someone who attempts to profit from inaccurate reporting?
