“The Last Jedi” Sets Record For Second Largest Opening Night

The Last Jedi

“The Last Jedi” installment of the Star Wars trilogy brought in an estimated $220 million domestically from Friday through Sunday, making it the number one debut of the year, according to Disney. Disney still has a ways to go before it recovers the $4 billion it paid for Lucas film in 2012, but they’re well on their way.

The Last Jedi set a record for the second largest Thursday night preview in North America, bringing in $45 million on opening night. The Last Jedi beat out Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 which was formerly the second highest. In three days The Last Jedi has already bested the five week gross of Justice League that was produced by Warner Bros.
