Senate Democrat calls Trump selling $60 Bibles a ‘risky bet’

Reported by Washington Times:

Sen. Raphael Warnock on Sunday whacked presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump‘s latest venture: $60 Bibles.

The Georgia Democrat and pastor at Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church labeled it a “risky” strategy because he says Mr. Trump‘s values run counter to the teachings of Christianity.

“It’s a risky bet because the folks who buy those Bibles might actually open them up, where it says things like ‘Thou shalt not lie, thou shalt not bear false witness,’ where it warns about wolves dressed up in sheep’s clothing,” Mr. Warnock said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think you ought to be careful. This is risky business for somebody like Donald Trump.”

In promoting the Bibles, Mr. Trump said in a video that he seeks to “make America pray again.”

He’s also selling branded gold sneakers to raise campaign funds as he battles several criminal trials that are quickly eating up money.

“The Bible does not need Donald Trump‘s endorsement,” Mr. Warnock said. “Jesus, in the very last week of his life, chased the money changers out of the temple, those who would take sacred things and use them as cheap relics to be sold in the marketplace.”
